Graduates joining us on an IT programme undertake a development or production route depending on their degree specialism.
What to expect
Your career with IG Group will start with an insight into our core business and innovative PureDeal trading platform. Once you fully understand the industry and how we operate you will go on to experience all elements of our IT function.
Both our IT development and IT production paths provide intensive and demanding opportunities to demonstrate your potential and skills in key business projects.
Training and development
The programme is structured over 18 months rotating through Operational and IT areas. Much of your development will be on the job and you will be actively supported and encouraged to attain high levels of performance through a combination of training and mentoring.
Your mentor will support your transition from trainee to fully-fledged team member and ask you to consider how you can best further your career.
Individual personal development is important to us. We offer in-house workshops and a development fund which can be used to invest in training solutions tailored to your needs.
Can I do this?
We are looking for graduates with a passion for IT and an interest in the financial sector who want to work in a fast-paced, challenging and rewarding environment. We seek individuals with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills who are keen to engage with others to generate successful solutions and outcomes for both internal and external clients.
Successful graduates are likely to have undertaken some work experience in a related role and/or demonstrated their drive and resourcefulness through voluntary work or other activities.
IT developer route
You are likely to have at least a 2:1 degree in a technical or mathematical subject and a CV that demonstrates your experience of working with and using various programming languages.
IT production route
Although your 2:1 degree may not be in a mathematical or technical subject , your CV will show evidence of your interest in working within an IT environment or perhaps how you have used IT in your studies or work experience.
Working in IT development
With user experience as a focus you will be involved in the development of high-performance web systems (semantic mark-up, CSS 3, HTML 5, real time push streaming, JavaScript libraries, Core Java, JEE, Spring) across all major browsers which integrate with RESTful services for our award-winning dealing platform. We also provide a web and native iPhone Dealer and a Professional L2 Dealer written in .NET.
Our systems interface with real-time feeds from vendors and exchanges worldwide using C++ for market data and FIX for very low latency high throughput. Additionally FIX pricing and trading APIs are offered for clients and trading partners.
Software is developed using the Scrum Agile methodology and released to production on a regular basis. We take great pride in the availability of our core trading systems, with low latency and high throughput AT the forefront of our decision making.
