Email Copywriter
We are looking for a new email copywriter to join our Content department. The role involves writing and maintaining client and prospects emails, including tailored communications, marketing, support and transactional emails.
We welcome applications from talented, confident and conscientious writers with an interest in financial services. In particular you should have:
- Expertise with email content - You will need an understanding of the unique demands of email copy, including how to target specific audiences, plus knowledge of html code, bulk email sending tools and reporting packages.
- A keen attention to detail - Consistency and accuracy are key to all our external communications. You should also be comfortable handling figures with precision.
- An adaptable writing style - You should be able to adjust your copy to the appropriate audience, from the leisure market through to the high-end institutional investor.
You will be a graduate with at least three years’ writing experience, preferably focussing on emails within a commercial environment. You should be well-organised in managing your workload, and some experience in project management would be preferable. An existing interest in the financial markets would be an advantage, and a desire to learn about our investment products is essential.
Job responsibilities
- To write, update and maintain client and prospects emails (including tailored client communications, newsletters, one-off promotions, marketing, support and transactional mails, and third-party mails).
- To understand and promote the key principles of email best practice.
- To adjust copy for the appropriate audience from the leisure market through to the high-end institutional investor.
- To code HTML emails and take responsibility for links and formatting.
- To use our bulk email sending tool and create reports that sync emails with specific client segments. Use analytics to improve our click-through rates.
- To liaise with other departments to improve email communication.
- To thoroughly proof-read all emails, ensuring accuracy and consistency of our house style and brand guidelines.
Person specification
- Expert/strong background in writing and creating marketing emails and thorough knowledge of email copywriting best practice.
- Evidence of flexible writing skills (preferably a concise writing style, concerned with getting the key message across quickly and efficiently).
- Capability to write within tight guidelines/constraints.
- Experience of project management, and the ability to take sole responsibility for tasks.
- Concerned with fine detail. Used to a process of checking and double-checking.
- Knowledge of reporting, databases, HTML code and software packages.
- Ability to form working relationships quickly, both within the immediate team and across the organisation.
- Evidence of an ability to understand new ideas quickly, and how to convey to others.
Essential skills and experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ writing or editing experience within a commercial environment.
- Thorough understanding of email marketing writing.
- Degree educated (graded ** or above)
- Excellent written communication skills with particular reference to email writing
- A keen attention to detail and ability to be consistent.
- Comfortable with handling figures.
- Well-organised and efficient.
- Self-starting, enthusiastic team-player who will be willing and able to help colleagues at peak times.
- Confident and friendly.
- Delivery-conscious and flexible to changing priorities, with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- A desire to learn about IG’s investment products
- A willingness to develop further knowledge and skills.
Desirable skills
- Some writing experience of working within a financial environment.
