Graduate FAQs

What schemes are available, and what are the opening and closing deadlines for applications?

We have a number of different schemes within the organisation, which will vary year on year, depending on business requirements.

All schemes which are currently open for applications are shown on the website. We do not accept speculative CVs for schemes not currently listed. If there are no schemes currently advertised that suit your interest, we encourage you to check back at a later date.

What skills and qualifications are required?

To qualify for any of our graduate schemes you will need to have attained a 2:1 in your degree and 300 UCAS points (or equivalent).

Other skills and qualifications required for each graduate scheme vary, please see each specific scheme will be outlined on page for each specific programme.

Are all your graduate schemes based in the UK? Do I need permission to work in the UK to apply?

Our graduate schemes are currently based in the UK, with graduates working in our London head office.

We welcome applications from candidates regardless of nationality, but applicants must meet the eligibility requirements laid out by the United Kingdom Borders Agency (UKBA) in order to be able to work in the UK. IG Group is an equal opportunities employer.

How is the application and selection process structured?

All applications must be submitted using our online tool. Typically, you will submit your CV and may also be asked to answer some accompanying questions. The selection process may vary slightly between schemes, but usually you will undergo a telephone interview. If successful at that stage you will be invited to attend an assessment day.

Can I apply for more than one scheme?

Yes, you can apply to any schemes you think are suitable.

When do graduate schemes start and how long do they last?

Our schemes typically begin every September, but there is sometimes flexibility to start earlier, based on individual circumstance.

Schemes vary from 12 to 18 months with the exception of the finance programme which is three years as it includes study for a professional qualification. You will be advised of the duration of the scheme during the application process.

How do rotations work?

The number, and length, of rotations undertaken varies from scheme to scheme. Rotations are designed to provide a good, all-round understanding of IG’s business, but will be tailored to meet business requirements and compliment the role that you are training for.

All placement rotations will have learning objectives that you will be expected to achieve during your time there. You will be supervised by a placement manager who will allocate appropriate tasks and organise relevant training to ensure you are supported to achieve your goals.

What is the salary, and are there any other benefits?

We offer competitive graduate salaries and regularly benchmark against industry standards. You will be advised of the starting salary for the specific scheme you apply for during the application process.

Staff also have access to a range of additional benefits, which we believe make working at IG even more rewarding. Some of these can be found on our pay and benefits page.

Will I receive training and progression opportunities?

All graduate schemes have a comprehensive development programme which consists of ‘on the job’ training, face-to-face learning, access to extensive online learning materials, and mentoring.

Most areas of the business have competency requirements for their roles. You will be able to access these to help you identify what knowledge and skills you need to acquire to get to the next level.

Where can I learn more about the working hours and company culture?

Our standard hours are 9am to 6pm.  Some areas of the business are required to work shifts to cover service requirements so working times may vary.  If this is the case, this will be discussed during the application process.

To discover more about our working environment and company culture see life at IG Group.

How do graduate schemes at IG differ from a junior position?

Junior positions tend to have a narrower point of focus than graduate schemes, with training focussed on delivering the job you are recruited for rather than a broader development programme.
